What Are People Saying About Your Business Online?

You know the saying, "If a tree falls in the forest, does it matter if no one hears it?"

If someone is saying something derogatory about your business, you may not hear about it immediately but the next time someone searches about your business in a search engine or looks to sites like Yelp for a recommendation, they may use that information to decide if they want to do business with you.

How do you manage your online reputation? Listen to our radio show coming up this Friday morning at 10 a.m. and call in with your questions at (347) 838-8567.

On Facebook, Everything Old is New Again

Facebook is a great connector of people from different parts of your life. You can go way back to the cradle, or to elementary, high school and college, and connect with acquaintances and friends from a bygone era.

Social media is responsible for this shift in consciousness where everything old is new again. Communities are tightening, becoming closer knit -- just like communities of the agricultural and industrial ages. In those days, neighbors would monitor each others' activities by peeking through lace covered windows. After that the news would spread like wildfire all over town.

Does this remind you of the status bar "What are you doing now" on Facebook and Twitter? How about viewing your friends' status on the home page of your profile? It's a window to what's going on in everyone's lives.

I'm having great fun connecting with old buddies and catching up,  Want to share some of your connecting stories? Click on comments button below.

Want to Create a Facebook Profile in your Business Name?

    Global

Have you ever tried to create a Facebook profile specifically for your business only to find that’s a no-no? And worse your site with all your videos, photos and friend connections have disappeared!

It’s because Facebook has strict rules about creating a profile in your business name. But you can work around it in two ways: Create a “group” for your business or create a “page.” I like “pages” better than “groups” because the former allows our blog to feed into the page whereas the latter doesn’t. With “pages” I don’t have to concern myself about keeping my page fresh everyday when I have a zillion other things to do.

With “pages,” people become fans of your page rather than “friends” as they do on your profile. You can create a “page” from the page manager tab on the “applications” menu.

Which do you like better, “pages” or “groups”? Click on the comments link below and give your reasons why.

    Change is Here!

I just took a look at President-Elect Barack Obama's new website. It's different from any government website I've seen. It's open, it's interactive, aesthetically pleasing and it involves the audience. It actually asks for our input!

You see folks this is an excellent example of how your website and all your new media components should reflect who you are. Mr. Obama campaigned on change and his transformative theme continues. Check out the site here: www.change.gov
